2018 was the year of Clean Beauty with almost every luxury beauty retailer jumping onto that bandwagon and made Clean Beauty the new normal. But what does Clean Beauty really mean? More importantly, how will it benefit my skin? In this blog, I will clarify the definition of Clean Beauty and how it is beneficial for our skin when it’s done correctly.

The concept of Clean Beauty is all about a better-for-you-skincare that is free from harsh and toxic chemicals. After all, our skin is the body’s largest organ, so it’s important to protect it. According to scientists, there are many skin care products currently on the market that contain harmful toxins that are bad for the skin. Some of the biggest offenders are parabens, which are preservatives in skin care, but scientific research shows that it could be carcinogenic; phthalates is another commonly used beauty ingredient to serve the purpose as a plasticizer/moisturizer, but scientific research shows that it could damage our reproductive system. These two toxins are just a few top offenders found in many skin care products at across different price points from the most expensive creams to the cheap face lotions. Other bad for the skin ingredients are fragrances and dyes; they could irritate skin especially sensitive skin. While fragrances and dyes are not toxic, they could flare up redness on the skin. According dermatologists, fragrances are usually made up of harmful chemicals like parabens and skin irritants, which can cause irritation and redness on the applied area. The irritation can occur from both synthetic and natural fragrances, so your best bet is to use a no-fragrance skincare option especially if you have sensitive skin. Avoid the following fragrance ingredients if possible: “parfum”, “linalool”, “limonene”, “citronellol” or “geraniol” in your skincare products. Next time before when you slather on a luxuriously scented moisturizer, you should think twice before applying.

The good news is that all HYDRA BOTANICA products are formulated with 100% pure natural ingredients and we are paraben-free, phthalate-free, fragrance-free, and dye-free skin care brand. We don’t use any dyes or fragrances (synthetic or natural) in our formulas. The color and scent are all natural, made out of the natural scent and color of the nourishing plant-based ingredients. Some of our personal favorites include the Rose Water Cream - Skin Perfecting Calming Moisturizer and the Multivitamins Face & Neck Cream. Regarding preservatives, it is critical to have preservatives in the products otherwise, bacteria and other bad stuff(e.g. microorganisms) can occur in the formulas within weeks of production. Thus, preservatives serve an important role to the safety of the formulas. At HYDRA BOTANICA, we use naturally derived preservatives that are plant-based and are scientifically proven to be safe for the skin. In fact, we took Clean Beauty to the next level and have a long list of banned ingredients in our skin care. Check out our complete list of “Unacceptable Ingredients”. So next time when you use HYDRA BOTANICA products, you can be sure that it is created with sensitive skin in mind and without any of the toxic or harsh chemicals. Instead, our pure, all natural plant-based nourishing ingredients provide rich moisture, protect and strengthen the skin barrier with restorative, age-defying benefits for a beautifully healthy and naturally glowing skin.

Cheers to a glowing 2019!
